OUR IMPACTSustainable and Regenerative Development Practices

El Nido Beach and Sustainability

El Nido Beach is a purpose-driven organization; we foster and take care of our employees, stakeholders, suppliers, communities and the environment we work in. Our values and ethos reflect the continuous support we provide for the well-being of people, society, local communities around us and our beloved planet.

We realize the challenges today’s world faces – it makes our beliefs stronger to develop real estate projects in harmony with nature and up to the highest standards of sustainable development – sustainability is in our DNA, always encouraging us to leave a legacy behind that generations will learn from and follow to preserve nature on planet Earth.

El Nido Beach’s sustainability efforts are a combination of our values and the expertise of our management, construction and administrative teams, who strictly employ ‘green’ standard operating procedures. From sourcing raw materials to delivering top class one of a kind luxurious residencies and hospitality assets, we have carefully managed and reduced our carbon footprint, while adhering to key sustainability development factors in every aspect of our work.

EcoTown

EcoTown is a multi-functional, ecofriendly and sustainable town located in El Nido, Palawan. Developed and curated by Eureka Resorts, this tourist and local destination is poised to put itself on the map by showcasing both its beauty and ingenuity. The development is a 22+ hectare estate adjacent to Eureka Resorts’ other projects – El Nido Beach Oceanview Villas Palawan and El Nido Beach Treehouse Villas Project – where it also integrates its Design with a Purpose philosophy.

EcoTown is master planned as a sustainable development hub utilizing ecofriendly materials and resources, ensuring that Palawan’s natural beauty and culture is preserved. With the guidance of the LEED system goals, and other local environmental groups, EcoTown uses all the best practices in the hopes of having a lasting impact in the cause to preserve nature’s beauty.

Responsible Construction

The philosophy of this development is Design with a Purpose. One of the ways we have purposely executed this is the way we have planned out our land development and roads. We successfully carried out the use of geocells which reduce C02 emissions by 20% and construction costs by 20%. Made from recycled materials, these geocells reduce the use of virgin resources, lowers carbon footprint and are more durable and has lower over-all construction costs.

Geocell is engineered for protection and soil stabilization applications. They are often used to help improve the performance of standard construction materials and erosion-control treatments. It provides the stiffness and resistance needed to stabilize roads on soft soils as well as prevent shrinking and cracking in clay, mitigate lateral dispersion and strain from sandy soils, and reinforce the subgrades in all soft soils.

Energy Conservation

As the project is expected to require a large amount of power, Eureka Resorts’ has opted for the use of Solar Farms. Solar farms will help the integrated properties conserve energy by harvesting the power of the sun. These are large scale solar installations where solar panels, or other means of collecting solar energy, like concentrating solar systems are used.

Unlike residential and commercial systems, they’re decentralized and usually consist of ground-mounted solar panels installed across the property’s large areas.

Solar farms operate as power plants, just like a natural gas power plant or other sources of energy generation that have generated electricity for consumers.

  • Zero-Waste Water Recycling

With the resort’s high-volume water needs, it is important to us that no water is wasted. Recycling wastewater can bolster local water supplies, improve water quality, and save energy which in turn will reduce carbon emission.

Our drainage, sewerage and water distribution Masterplan is crafted with a goal to have zero-waste, upholding our Design with a Purpose philosophy.

  • Drainage System

Rainwater will be collected, treated, and re-used throughout the property. All rainwater runoff from the in-land villas and facilities are to be collected and directed to the multiple detention tanks located at the lowest area of the property. Collected rainwater is to be filtered, treated, and stored at the detention tank before re-using it for flushing/irrigation purposes.

  • Sewerage System

The sewerage system will be separated into two methods such as black and grey water collection. This is to be applied to all the in-land villas and facilities in the property. Black water consists of wastewater coming from water closets and urinals while the grey water comes from lavatories and shower drains. Black water is to be treated extensively through a Sewage Treatment Plant and be used for irrigation purposes. Grey water is intended to be re-used for flushing/irrigation.

  • Water Distribution System

Both potable and non-potable water will be supplied in all the structures within the premises. Potable water comes from the fresh source of water while non-potable water is the effluent from the treatment plant. Potable water is to be supplied in lavatories and shower while the non-potable goes to urinals and water closets.

Supporting the Campaign on Single-use Plastic

A straw with our iced coffee, a plastic bag to carry our takeout, a wrapper on a candy bar: taken individually, each seems harmless. These modern conveniences are such a common thing that they hardly register in our minds. But single-use plastics come with a heavy environmental price—one that we’ll be paying off for a very long time. The overuse of plastic is having a devastating impact on our oceans, our wildlife, and our health. This is why we support the single-use plastic campaign.

The integrated developments support the phasing out of single-use plastics. Hundreds of millions of tons of plastic is produced every year, most of which cannot be recycled. The development will use biodegradable plastic alternatives like bottles in lieu of plastic bottled water.

  • Championing a Sustainable Food Supply Chain

The developer will be working hand-in-hand with farming experts in working with its fellow landowner neighbors to convert their land to farms to yield crops that will supply the projected food consumptions of the integrated hotels, neighbor establishments and the residents of the area.

It will build food sheds and initiate a cooperation for contracted farming. This way, local farmers will get a steady source of income and be provided with the infrastructure that the developer offers like water.

  • Advocating a Circular Economy

By embracing a circular economy, we can significantly reduce the environmental impact of the land. This approach not only benefits the planet but can also lead to cost savings, increased resource efficiency, and enhanced resilience in the face of resource scarcity and climate change.

Additionally, these practices can contribute to creating healthier and more livable communities by reducing pollution, promoting resource conservation, and fostering innovation in building design and materials, ensuring that project contributes to a more circular and regenerative future.
